What is the Rental Housing Inspection Program?

The Rental Housing Inspection Program was implemented in 2007 to promote and protect the health, safety and welfare of residents by providing for the registration of rental units, buildings and properties, and the periodic inspection to ensure such properties meet the minimum standards established by the City's housing, electric, mechanical, plumbing and other property maintenance-related codes.

  • Residential properties with two or more units must register with the City annually by completing and submitting a Rental Housing Inspections Program Application. Single family dwellings and owner occupied duplexes are exempt.
  • A $25.00 fee must accompany an application for residential properties with less than 5 units; a $50.00 fee must accompany an application for residential properties with 5 units or more.
  • One application is required per owner, per rental building. If rental buildings are contiguous and are held by the same owner, only one application is required.
  • Registration is pro-rated and is non-transferable.
  • The full fee is due if the property is rented for any portion of a calendar year.
  • All applications expire on December 31 of the current year.
