Moline Mayor Scott Raes is scheduled to undergo surgery to repair a torn heart valve on Tuesday, February 18, 2014, at Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, IL. The recovery period is expected to take approximately 8 weeks.
“The doctors have told me that this is a condition that I have been living with for several years but it just started to give me symptoms last fall. I’m looking forward to being able to get back into my routines of bowling, softball and walking,” said Mayor Raes.
In accordance with the Moline Code of Ordinances, Mayor Pro Tem John Knaack will serve as Mayor during Mayor Raes’ absence.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Mayor Raes and his family and we are confident that he will have a healthy recovery,” said Moline City Administrator Lew Steinbrecher.
Raes is 55 years old, began his service on the City Council in 2003 as an Alderman of the Third Ward where he has been a lifelong resident. He was elected as Mayor in April, 2013.
