In 2008, the Police Department opened a substation in Pheasant Ridge, a 19-building, 216-unit apartment complex located in the 3500 block of 70th Street. A high volume of calls for service and a desire to provide an additional sense of security and community to the residents led to this collaborative effort on the part of the police and property management.

The COP Pheasant Ridge office is not staffed on a full-time basis; however, police officers are frequently on site and patrolling the area. This steady police presence serves as a crime deterrent and enables the residents and officers to become well acquainted with each other. The community oriented policing (COP) program focuses on preventing problems through relationship building and bonding with residents. More often than not, problems and calls for service at the complex are the result of visitors, not the residents.
