Plans continue in the revitalization of Moline’s Browning Park, located at 15th Street and 22nd Avenue. Led by the Moline Park & Recreation Board, a committee consisting of residents, neighborhood partnership and Adopt-A-Park groups, area businesses and city staff continues to give the old park a much-needed makeover. A park renovation plan was developed through a series of public input sessions and volunteers have completed several in-kind service projects.

The revitalization project will be completed in four phases, with a cost of up to $400,000.

Phase I includes a rain garden for improved drainage as well as an educational tool, elementary age playground, and a semi-circular gateway to 16th Street with a lighted flagpole display.

Phase II includes grading the entire park and a permeable-paved parking lot for 48 spaces.

Phase III will include a fence and gate that will open onto the Moline School’s Browning Field track, allowing access to the track for fitness walking. The fence is being constructed and funded in partnership with the Moline School District.

Additional items in Phase III and IV will include renovation of the restrooms, preschool playground, central plaza, sidewalks, and a staging plaza with benches by the central gate leading into Browning Field. Funding is currently being sought.

The Browning Park Revitalization project is being funded through community partnerships with the Velie Wheelock Neighborhood Association, area businesses, Moline School District No. 40, and the Moline Park Board, as well as a series of grants, city funds, and private donations.
The Moline Wal-Mart, who has signed on as an Adopt-A-Park partner, will assist through grants, providing landscape materials, and also store associates who plan to donate time to work in the park.

Businesses and individuals are invited to consider sending a donation to help with the remaining balance of funding needed. Donations may be sent to: Moline Park Office, 3635 – 4th Avenue, Moline, IL 61265. Make check payable to: Moline Park & Recreation Board. All donations are tax deductible.

The Revitalization of Browning Park supports the City Council’s goal of quality neighborhoods and a vibrant park system. “The formulation of the Browning Park Committee and the development of the master plan is an example of how residents, businesses, and city staff can work together to improve the quality of life in our city parks and neighborhoods,” said Doug House, General Manager, Municipal Services.
