2019 Fall Hydrant Flushing to Begin

City Water Distribution crews will begin hydrant flushing starting September 30, 2019.  Hydrant flushing will occur between 3 a.m. and 7 p.m. on weekdays.  The crews will be working the next four weeks to systematically flow each of the 2,500 plus hydrants in the City.  Please see the 2019 Fall Hydrant Flushing Approximate Schedule.  This work will allow each hydrant to be evaluated to ensure proper operation.  This process also allows accrued sediments to be flushed from the water mains.

Customers may experience some discoloration or cloudiness in their water for a short time following hydrant flushing in their area. Generally, this will clear up by running some water from a cold water tap for a few minutes. Although, the water is still considered safe to use during this time, customers should refrain from doing laundry while flushing is being conducted in their area.

Questions concerning the flushing operation should be directed to the Water Plant at (309)524-2300.
