New 95-Gallon Recycling Cart Placement Progress

Reccyle Cart Delivery

Every residence will have their old recycling cart(s) picked up and every residence will receive a new 95-gallon recycling cart with Radio-Frequency Identification (RFID) technology installed on it.  The deployment of the new 95-gallon carts will begin on Monday, October 15th and is expected to take at least 3 weeks to complete.  The cart manufacturer, Rehrig Pacific, will be completing the deployment.  They will be leaving the carts at each current collection location.   Midland Davis will also be collecting the original carts beginning Monday, October 15th.  They will empty the carts on their scheduled day and a crew will immediately load them up.

The deployment of the new carts will take more time than the collection of the old carts because Rehrig Pacific will be establishing an accurate database in the field using RFID technology.  As a result, residents may have several days between when their old cart is picked up and their new cart is delivered.  Residents may view the progress of the recycle cart placement through our Web Map that is updated daily to include deliveries from the previous day.  Midland Davis will be inspecting the old carts and the City will acquire 48-gallon carts that are in excellent condition from them. Staff from the City’s Municipal Services Division will thoroughly clean the carts that are acquired and install RFID technology on them.

Residents may request a 48-gallon cart and request an additional 95-gallon recycling cart by entering a Resident Request on our website or by calling the Municipal Services general phone number (309)524-2400.  Any resident that has requested a smaller cart will then have a 48-gallon cart exchanged for the 95-gallon cart that was delivered. Exchanges for 48-gallon carts will likely begin the week of November 5th. Residents can now include glass and aseptic packaging into the single-stream recycling service.
