JD Road will Reopen to Four Lanes in Time for Black Friday

The City of Moline is collaborating with the Illinois Department of Transportation and McCarthy Construction to shift the eastbound traffic along John Deere Road onto the newly constructed eastbound lanes right in time for the holiday shopping season. The westbound traffic will remain on the temporary pavement throughout the winter and the westbound barrier wall will be removed. “Both Department of Transportation staff and McCarthy employees have been very respectful of the City’s role and welcomed our input throughout the project. The traffic improvements motorists will see this winter are a direct result of the strength of this partnership,” said JD Schulte, City of Moline Public Works Director. The entire corridor will have full access at all side roads with turning lanes beginning November 22 and will remain open until construction resumes in the spring of 2018. The eastbound ramp onto John Deere Road, northbound from I-74 will also be reopened.

“Moline is grateful for the $65 Million investment by the State of Illinois and the Federal government to widen a large portion of John Deere Road from 4 to 6 lanes. This project will improve accessibility and support the growing retail corridor along John Deere Road,” said City of Moline Mayor Stephanie Acri. Leaving the westbound traffic on the current existing westbound pavement will also allow an expedited start to construction activities next year. In spring 2018 the westbound traffic will be moved to the newly constructed pavement with a barrier wall similar to this year. “Construction on John Deere Road has progressed very well this construction season. We are pleased to open the new pavement to traffic improving access to and from the many businesses for the holiday shopping season. The Department would like to thank the travelling public as well as the local business/property owners for their patience and understanding during this past construction season,” said Ryan Hippen, Construction Field Engineer, Illinois Department of Transportation. The entire project is currently ahead of schedule and is expected to be completed in 2018.

A press conference will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 on the west side of the intersection at 53rd Street and John Deere Road in front of the new barrier wall. Attendees may park in the Bank Orion parking lot located at 5301 44th Avenue Drive, Moline, IL.
